Overview
Cachey is a visual memory engine for creative work. This policy explains what data Cachey — including the Cachey browser extension — collects, how it's used, and the choices you have. We collect only what we need to run the product, and we don't sell your data.
What we collect
- Account information. Your name, email address, and profile image, used to sign you in and identify your library.
- Images you save. The image files you upload or save via the extension, plus optional metadata such as the source page URL, dimensions, and a perceptual hash used for duplicate detection.
- AI-generated metadata. Titles, descriptions, tags, style, mood, and dominant colors that our AI generates from your images to make them searchable.
- Preferences. Settings such as your creator profile, layout, and sort choices.
The browser extension
The “Save to Cachey” extension lets you right-click an image on any site and save it to your library. Specifically:
- It reads the image you explicitly right-click, and the URL of the page it came from, only when you choose “Save to Cachey.”
- It accesses the current tab only after you invoke it (via the
activeTabpermission). You may optionally grant access to all sites to skip the per-image prompt; this is never required and can be revoked at any time. - Authentication. The extension obtains a short-lived access token from your signed-in Cachey session via a same-origin request to
cachey.net. It never stores your password, and the long-lived session token never leaves your browser. - The extension does not track your browsing, read pages you don't act on, or send data anywhere other than Cachey's own backend.
How we use your data
Your data is used solely to provide Cachey: storing and displaying your library, generating searchable metadata, and syncing your account across devices. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
Third-party processors
We rely on a small number of trusted service providers strictly to operate Cachey — such as cloud hosting and storage, AI processing used to analyze your images, and a payment processor for paid plans. These providers act on our behalf under contractual obligations, process your data only to provide their service to us, and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes. We do not sell your data or share it for advertising.
Cookies & similar technologies
We use strictly necessary cookies and similar local storage to keep you signed in, secure your session, and remember basic preferences. We do not use cookies for advertising. You can clear or block cookies in your browser, though doing so may prevent you from staying signed in.
How we protect your data
We use industry-standard safeguards — including encryption in transit, access controls, and least-privilege practices — to protect your data. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your information and to notify you of significant incidents where required by law.
Data retention & deletion
Your data is retained while your account is active. You can delete individual assets, clear your entire library, or delete your account at any time from Settings. Deleting your account removes your stored images and associated metadata from our active systems; residual copies may persist briefly in encrypted backups before being overwritten on our standard cycle.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. You can exercise most of these directly from Settings, or contact us and we'll help. We won't discriminate against you for exercising your rights, and you may have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
International data transfers
Cachey may process and store your data in countries other than where you live. Where we transfer data across borders, we rely on appropriate legal safeguards to protect it consistent with this policy.
Children's privacy
Cachey is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, if higher), and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of Cachey after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
